A new website is to be launched on Thursday 11 September 2008 in the Council Chamber of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar in Stornoway. The website will provide up to date and archive material on the BT Scotland National Schools Gaelic Debate project which was started in 1999. BT Scotland has been the main sponsor of the event for the last nine years with additional assistance from CnaG, BBC, CNES and MG Alba.
Agnes Rennie, Chair of the Comhairle’s Gaelic Committee said: ““The BT Gaelic Schools Debate project has been a huge process since it was established in 1999. It has given Gaelic speaking secondary school pupils throughout Scotland the opportunity to come together and hone their debating skills and their communication skills in general. This website will allow those involved in the BT Gaelic Schools Debate to access information and material relating to the project. CNES is grateful for the continuing and generous financial support from BT Scotland”.
Calum Iain Macleod, Director of Development, CnaG, who is chairman of the National Gaelic Schools’ Debate Management Committee said, “I am delighted that all the experiences gained over the years of the competition are now freely accessible to everyone and I am sure that the web-site will be well used. I believe the new website will not only be a useful tool for young people participating in debating competitions but will also be very useful to students undertaking subjects in Gaelic. We are grateful to BT Scoland and our other sponsors for their continuing support.”
The new website is at www.deasbadbtalba.com
The launch is at 11am, today (11th September) in the Comhairle Chamber in Stornoway.
