Comhairle Offices at Stornoway and Balivanich will be closed to the public on Wednesday 24th September 2008 due to industrial action.

Offices at Castlebay and Tarbert will be open as usual but may be subject to limited service.

Many schools, particularly the larger ones, will be closed due to a lack of support staff and disruption to Comhairle bus services. Individual schools are informing parents as to whether schools are open or shut.

Libraries across the Western Isles will be closed to the public. Comhairle Sports facilities will be closed except at Lionel and Shawbost where the pools are expected to open as usual. Harris Sports Centre will also be open. Refuse collection will be disrupted.

It is anticipated that other Comhairle premises will be closed including Registration.

Emergency calls only may be made to Faire- 01851 701702.

Services for the most vulnerable, including Residential and Home Care, are exempt from the action.
