New Housing Partnership Shadow Board

The inaugural meeting of the Western Isles Housing Partnership Shadow Board elected office bearers at a meeting in Stornoway last night.

Cllr. George Lonie was elected Chair of the Shadow Board while Mr. Ian Reid of South Harris Residents’ Association was elected Vice-Chair, Secretary will be Mr. Chris Morrison of Newton Ward Residents’ Association whilst the Treasurer will be Cllr. David Blaney.

Mr. Lonie said: “The Board has a good mix of skills and experience in Housing matters and will aim to do our best for tenants and the wider community. Hopefully we can bring forward proposals that will meet tenants’ aspirations and secure new Housing investment in the Western Isles”.

In the latest phase of the New Housing Partnership, the Shadow Board has the task of bringing back proposals on stock transfer to the Comhairle and the Scottish Executive. A Business Plan will be developed in consultation with tenants and Housing Associations with advice from the Tenants’ Independent Partnership Advisory Service.

It is intended that an initial consultation process will get underway in September if the Business Plan is accepted by the Comhairle and the Executive with a formal consultation underway by October. This would allow for a ballot of tenants in March 2003.
