Lingerbay Statement

The Comhairle notes the position of the Scottish Executive re. the 1965 planning consent for mineral extraction at Lingerbay. The Comhairle was of the view that the 1965 permission was not extant but if the view was that it was, then only the worked area (approximately 1% of the total site) is covered by the consent. The decision of the Scottish Ministers endorses this view.

We would certainly now welcome an early resolution to the 1991 application to bring an end to the uncertainty surrounding this issue.
