Sunshine On Harris As Sir E. Scott Pupils Collect Young Enterprise Award

Sir E Scott Young Enterprise Company have won the Scottish finals of the Royal Bank of Scotland Young Enterprise award, beating over 300 companies from all parts of Scotland.

The group of 6th year pupils formed a company called Solas which produced calendars showing scenes of Harris. They also sold a variety of other products and put on an art exhibition. The company made a £6K profit.

The Harris group will now represent Scotland at the UK finals in London in the summer.

Last year the Nicolson Institute from Stornoway came second in the Scottish finals.

Harris Councillor and Vice-Chair of Education, Mrs Morag Munro, said: “This is a marvellous achievement and again shows the skills and dedication of our young people. They can be rightly proud of being the best young entrepeneurs in Scotland and I congratulate them and the school for their efforts. I am sure Sir E. Scott school will perform well as the Scottish representatives at the UK finals.”
