and grandparents of preschool children.
Child Safety Week runs this year from the 17th to the 23rd of June.
The years theme is Accidents dont have to happen. Prevention is better than cure.
Child Safety week is the annual initiative of the Child Accident Prevention Trust. The main aim of the week is to increase the awareness and understanding of childrens accidents and their prevention.
The aims of child safety week are to provide clear and accurate safety information, persuade local communities to take part in child safety activities and to encourage the media to provide positive coverage for child injury prevention and safety issues.
Child Safety week aims to reach anyone interested in the safety and well being of children and young people.
The evening seminar will begin with coffee and registration at 7.30 pm. and will be opened at 7.50pm by Mr R Murray, Vice-Convener of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar. The delegates will then attend workshops run by the following agencies: Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Western Isles Health Board, Northern Constabulary, Highlands and Islands Fire Brigade, the British Red Cross, and The Maritime and Coastguard Agency. Faire, the community alarm scheme, will have a display at the seminar.
There will be a short question and answer session at the end of the sessions followed by a fun quiz with prizes. Certificates of attendance will be issued to all delegates.
A spokesperson for the Safetywise group said Safetywise are grateful
to Boots the Chemist Stornoway for donating the prizes for the quiz. We hope
this seminar will encourage those attending to introduce simple safety measures
in the homes and when they are out and about with their children.
