Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has welcomed the additional money announced by the Minister for Finance and Public Services, Andy Kerr, who visited the Western Isles earlier this week.
The extra allocation for local authorities across Scotland will mean an additional £834,000 for the Western Isles to be spent on the priority areas identified by the Minister of supporting children and young people and improving the local environment.
The Vice-Convener of the Comhairle, Mr. Roddy Murray, said: This is a
very welcome announcement by Mr. Kerr and reflects that the Scottish Executive
and the Minister have been listening carefully to the concerns of local government.
We have asked the Comhairles Members and Heads of Service to examine a
range of projects for which this funding could be used under the policy themes
identified. The Comhairle will then identify a list of projects for approval
by the Executive.
