Statement by Vice-Convener of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Cllr. Roddy Murray re. Bord Na Gaidhlig.

"The Comhairle has been campaigning for Bord na Gaidhlig to be based in the Western Isles and it is deeply disappointing that a decision appears to have been taken by the Scottish Executive to locate the board in Inverness.

The manner of how this decision has emerged is equally disappointing and I have to say that I find it curious that as late as last Friday Scottish Executive officials were claiming that no decision had been taken as to the location. However at that very time an advert was being prepared which clearly states that Inverness is to be the location for the Board.

This appears to be a deliberate attempt by the Scottish Executive to mislead and deceive the Comhairle. To be treated with contempt like this is totally unacceptable and I will be protesting in the strongest possible terms over the manner in which this has been mishandled by officials at the Executive."
