£1m Boost For Western Isles Communities |

The additional allocation of £834k from the Scottish Executive to local authorities has been topped up by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar to £1m.
The allocation of £166k from balances was agreed at a meeting of the Policy and Finance Committee today.
£400k will be spent on health improvement and wellbeing schemes for children and young people. Specific schemes will be undertaken within the themes of swimming lessons, sports weeks, organised play, leisure access and exercise/healthy eating programmes.
£450k will be allocated for traffic calming, road safety, traffic management, neighbourhood safety, lighting and 20s plenty schemes.
A further £150k will go towards carbon monoxide alarms, cleaning up graffiti and vandalism, dog fouling and litter campaigns and recycling banks.

Roddy Murray said:
We have agreed to top up the extra allocation we received
from the Scottish Executive to make the money up to £1m
to be spent on real environmental improvements in our communities
and in the services we provide for children and young people.
The Comhairle is committed to the enhancement of services
across the board and this funding, as well as improving service
provision, will also help generate employment and business
throughout the Islands.
