Western Isles Look Forward to Fresh Futures |
27 August 2002 |
With three grant rounds remaining before the end of March next year, Fresh Futures are keen to promote the programme in the Western Isles and, in particular, to encourage applications for community-led, sustainable energy and sustainable travel projects. Mr Roxburgh will be on Lewis for two days and a schedule of visits has been arranged for him to meet as many local agencies and community groups as possible during his stay, including a videoconferencing link to Uist and Barra. It is hoped that this visit will be followed by a series of surgeries throughout the Western Isles at a later date.
Donald Maclean, Chairperson of the Comhairle's Sustainable Development Committee welcomed the visit and presentation and said that
" Fresh Futures is able to fund projects in sectors which are both topical and important in terms of the sustainable economic wellbeing of the Western Isles" and he hoped that "communities, in consultation with the Comhairle and the main local agencies, could develop projects which could benefit from the funding opportunities afforded by this programme. " Grants of between £3,000 and £50,000 can be made to eligible projects.
