Statement In Response to HIAL/bmi Announcement |
13 September 2002 |
Comhairle nan Eilean Siars Chairman of Transportation, Norman A. Macdonald, commenting on the announcement today by HIAL and bmi of additional flights from and to Stornoway, said:
Whilst there is much to be welcomed in this announcement such as the provision of passenger jet services, a direct link from Stornoway to Edinburgh and cheaper fares, we will be seeking assurances from bmi that this is a long term commitment to services to and from Stornoway and that there will be no adverse impact on current services. I hope to meet with representatives of the company in the near future.
The Comhairle has not had the opportunity to discuss these latest proposals but it is unlikely that the Comhairles position would be different from that expressed on Loganairs intention to introduce Sunday flights.
