DEADLINE APPROACHING FOR LOCAL ENTRIES TO NATIONAL ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN AWARDS

20 September 2002

2003 CIVIC TRUST AWARDS

Entrants in the Western Isles have until 27 September 2002 to enter any outstanding new buildings, restoration projects, public art works, landscape and urban design schemes to the Civic Trust Awards for architectural and environmental design. The annual scheme is run by the Civic Trust, the charity that campaigns for a better built environment, in partnership with Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and is widely recognised as the largest and most comprehensive of its kind in Europe.

The Civic Trust Awards aim to raise awareness of the importance of design in improving the environment by recognising outstanding projects in the fields of architecture, planning, landscape, public art and urban design. Recognition can take the form of an Award, Commendation or Mention. The 2003 programme also features nine Special Awards. The Special Awards promote excellence in specific areas of development and are sponsored by a broad range of organisations from the commercial and public sectors.

Entries are invited from all high quality building and landscape projects, regardless of size or type, completed between 1 January 2000 and 30 September 2002. The deadline for entries is Friday 27 September 2002 any anyone can enter a project with the owner’s and occupier’s permission.

The Civic Trust Awards scheme is run on a two-year cycle: one year entries are invited from the UK’s countryside, country town and smaller cities; the next year from the major cities. The 2003 Civic Trust Awards covers the UK’s countryside and country town areas.
