Two hundred households across the Western Isles
will be safer in future thanks to a scheme to provide
hard wired smoke detection. The £20k initiative,
agreed at todays Housing Committee, will be
aimed at the most vulnerable in society in the first
instance.
Many hundreds of homes in the Western Isles have
only battery operated smoke detectors or no smoke
detection at all. The allocation of £20k will
provide hard wired smoke detection in approximately
200 homes.
Housing Chairman George Lonie said: This
initiative arose out of a community planning meeting
and illustrates the benefit of agencies working
together. Many of the most vulnerable in our communities
will be safer in their homes as a result of this.
