The Western Isles Alternative and Renewable Energy Partnership
(WIAREP) has been nominated as one of the Best Community Initiatives
in the Scottish Green Energy Awards.
WIAREP is a multi-agency group working to promote renewable and
sustainable energy projects in the Western Isles and to provide
a strategic overview for energy related actvities.
The Scottish Green Energy Awards mark achievement in the renewables
sector, with nominations coming from the industry and not the nominees
themselves. They are organised by Scottish Renewables Forum, the
forum for Scotlands renewables industry.
The Chair of WIAREP, Mr. David Currie, said: I am delighted
that the partnership has been nominated for this prestigious award.
It is a refelection of what has been achieved since WIAREP was set
up in June 2001. We have always aimed to inform the community of
the work going on in the development of the energy agenda in the
Western Isles. The potential benefits for the Islands in the renewable
energy sector are huge and it is important that we all work together.
The award winners are due to be announced at the end of the week.
Other nominees in the Best Community Initiative category are the
Isle of Muck Wind Energy Project, the Knoydart Foundation and Berwickshire
Housing Association. For more information on wiarep see www.cne-siar.gov.uk/wiarep
