| Spill Response Team In Action |

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s Spill Response team has been in action following a spill of diesel last night on a slipway at Ardveenish on Barra due to a burst pipe at the Barratlantic factory. A substantial amount of diesel remained in the 25,000 litre tank and the bulk of the spilt fuel has now been recovered using absorbent booms. It is being transferred to Uist for disposal. About 1,000 litres went into the sea but has been dispersing. Various agencies worked closely together on the operation including local fire services, Coastguard, SEPA, the MPCU and the Comhairle. The situation will contiue to be monitored. Ends Nigel Scott
