Mr. Alasdair Morrison MSP recently launched the New Community Schools
Gaelic water information leaflet ‘Uisge Uisge Uisge’.
The children at Croileagan Bhearnaraigh were issued with their new
water bottles and information leaflets by Mr. Morrison.
This leaflet is part of a programme which promotes the consumption
of water in schools and their communities throughout the Western
Isles. All children and young people have been issued with their
own water bottles which they are encouraged to drink from though
out the school day. Pupils have also been issued with a variety
of information leaflets and posters that focus on the benefits of
water as part of a healthy lifestyle.
Mr. Norman L. Macdonald, Chair of the CnES Education and Children’s
Service Committee commented “There are many benefits to be
derived from drinking water, one of these is that it can help young
people not to consume so many sugar laden drinks which are not only
bad for their teeth but may affect behaviour. We welcome this leaflet
which addresses such an important issue.”
Mr. Alasdair Morrison explained that Health Promoting Schools are
a central part of the Scottish Executives New Community Schools
initiative. “It is good to see so many young people using
water bottles on a regular basis. This new leaflet will assist in
the NCS driver to help children have the best possible start in
life.”
Mr. Donald A. Macleod, Integration Manager of New Community Schools,
welcomed the arrival of this leaflet as part of the programme which
promotes health and well being of children and young people. He
commented, “We work closely in partnership with out colleagues
in NHS Western Isles, together we feel this initiative is making
a real difference to children and young people by encouraging healthy
habits.”
