| Comhairle members today
reacted with disappointment at the announcement by Breasclete firm
Biolitec Pharma that it is to shed eight (8) jobs at its high-tech
manufacturing facility.
The company is proposing to reduce its workforce from 24 to 16
over the coming months, citing contractural and payment constraints
as its reasons for the cuts.
Comhairle Convenor Alex Macdonald said:
‘The Comhairle very much regrets the proposed loss of these
attractive and much-needed technical positons in Breasclete. We
are looking to Biolitec to ensure that they secure the future of
the remaining posts and are in discussions with the company to see
if we can offer any assistance.’
Chairman of the Sustainable Development Committee, Councillor Archie
Campbell, commented:
‘High-quality jobs are needed to ensure the future economic
success of the Western Isles. We are disappointed that Biolitec
have been unable to sustain employment of this nature and will be
working with our economic development partners to try and ensure
the future full use of the Breasclete facility.’
