Stornoway Abattoir Open From 18th August

5 August 2003

Stornoway Abattoir will be open from Monday 18th August to Friday 12th December, inclusive. Daily opening hours will be Monday to Friday, 0800 to 1600, with advance bookings available from Thursday 14th August.

Customers are advised to make all telephone contacts and bookings with the abattoir between 0900 and 1200, when the office is staffed. They are reminded that all bookings will be treated on a first come, first served basis and that the necessary paperwork required to satisfy traceability should be in order and readily available.

Conditions of slaughter are available from the Department for Sustainable Communities. Also available is information regarding the charging levels for slaughter, butchering and delivering of carcasses. All of these aspects remain unchanged from last year. Customers can contact Stornoway Abattoir on Telephone No: 01851 706733 and Fax No: 01851 706803.

Archie Campbell, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s Chairman of Sustainable Development Committee, said:
“Stornoway Abattoir provides an invaluable service for the crofting community of Lewis and Harris. I hope the facility is widely used, and that the people will support it’s continued existence.”

A report on slaughterhouses throughout the Western Isles will go to the Sustainable Development Committee in August.
