Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has appointed Christina Macleod as Project
Officer for the development of Gaelic day care for young children.
The post was established in order to address a gap in Gaelic day
care provision in the Western Isles.
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has been fully committed to Gaelic Medium
Education since 1986 but much still needs to be done, especially
in the field of pre school education to assist parents who wish
to prepare their children for Gaelic education. One gap in the pre-school
provision has been the lack of Gaelic Day Care provision.
Education Chairman, Cllr. Norman L Macdonald, said:
“Comhairle nan Eilean Siar recognises that there is a growing
demand for Gaelic Day Care provision and wishes to address this
issue with the greatest urgency. The appointment of a Project Officer
for the development of Gaelic day care is a good move forward and
it is hoped eventually to provide a purpose built facility to fill
this gap in the school provision. In order to gauge the level of
demand, all those with an interest in Gaelic Day Care provision
should contact the Gaelic Pre School Officer“.
All interested in this project should contact Christina Macleod
at The Education Development Centre, 6 Kenneth St Stornoway. Telephone
708659.
