Comhairle Urges People to Comment on the Draft Gaelic Bill

Tha Comhairle nan Eilean Siar ag iarraidh air muinntir nan Eilean cothrom a ghabhail air cuir ris an deasbad air Gàidhlig san àm ri teachd le a bhith a’ beachdachadh air dreach Bhile na Gàidhlig a chaidh fhoillseachadh le Riaghaltas na h-Alba.

Thuirt an Neach-gairm, Alaic Dòmhnallach: “Tha a’ Chomhairle a’ cur fàilte air an dreach Bhile air fhoillseachadh le Riaghaltas na h-Alba a tha a’ coilionadh an gealladh a thug iad ron taghadh, agus tha e a-nis an urra ri daoine am beachdan air a’ Bhile a nochdadh. Tha e an urra rinne a tha daingnichte ris a’ chànan a bhrosnachadh agus a leasachadh pàirt a ghabhail anns an deasbad seo. Bithidh a’ Chomhairle a’ cur freagairt foirmeil aig deireadh an ùine co-chomhairleachaidh, ach dh’iarrainn cuideachd air duine sam bith eile aig a bheil ùidh anns a’ chùis am beachdan a dhèanamh soilleir do Riaghaltas na h-Alba.

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has urged people in the Western Isles to take the opportunity to contribute to the debate on the future of the Gaelic language by commenting on the draft Gaelic Bill published by the Scottish Executive.

Convener Alex MacDonald said: “The Comhairle very much welcomes the fact that the Scottish Executive has lived up to its pre-election pledge by bringing forward a Gaelic Bill which is now out for consultation. It is up to all of us who are committed to supporting and developing the language to take part in the debate about its future. The Comhairle will formally be replying at the end of the consultation period but I would also urge all those with an interest to express their views to the Scottish Executive.”
