The Collection System

During Phase 1 of the Pilot Kerbside Collection two different systems were used. It was clear following feedback from householders and operational staff that the wheelie bin system was the preferred option. The diagram below shows the wheelie bin collection system that is being used by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar for the Kerbside Collection.

Plastic bag

We will provide you with 18months supply of disposable bags for plastics only. Tie a knot in the bag on the day of collection but please do not use string or tape as these bags are recycled.

• Plastic food and drink containers such as margarine tubs, yoghurt pots, shampoo and washing liquid bottles etc
• Plastic bags (tied together)
• Tetra-Paks, Crisp packets,

 Hessian Sack

• Computer paper
• Contents of junk mail
• Magazines
• Newspapers
• Telephone directories
• Yellow Pages
• Greeting cards
• Cardboard, carbon paper, envelopes, food packaging, plastic bags, books or paper towels

Left Blue basket

• Glass – bottles and jars, all colours (rinsed and lids removed )
• Ceramics, Pyrex, window glass, light bulbs, strip lights, broken glass

Right Blue basket

• Cans – aluminium and steel food and drinks cans (cleaned and labels removed)
• Aerosols
