New
Paper Banks Arrive
21 December 2004
Recycling Points in and around
Stornoway will benefit from the arrival of a new style
of Paper Bank. The banks are easier to use than the
existing banks with a much greater capacity for paper.
Similar in design to the existing Recycling Point skips
used for glass, plastics and cans, people will find
it easier to deposit paper.
There is no longer a need to
wrap the papers in carrier bags as before. If it is
easier then please bring the papers to the Recycling
Point in carrier bags but deposit paper only into the
Paper Banks. The carrier bags should then be knotted
and placed in the plastics compartment of the Recycling
Point.
The increased capacity of the new Paper Banks will enable
more types of material to be recycled. The new banks
will take the following materials
- Newspaper
- Office waste paper
- Magazines and brochures
- Junk mail
- Telephone directories and yellow
pages
- Greetings cards
However, the composite nature
of some materials prevents them from being recycled.
They are binders, envelopes and books.
Cardboard should not be placed
in the Paper Banks. Its bulky nature fills the banks
quickly and is also better used to assist composting.
The new skips will be seen around
Stornoway from mid December 2004.
