Bumper Month For Paper Collecting
1 March 2005
February proved to be a bumper month for paper collecting in the Western Isles. The highest ever monthly total was recorded with 16 tonnes of paper arriving at the Bennadrove Recycling Centre. New, larger, Paper Banks and more public awareness of Recycling are considered to be the factors that lead to this increase.
The 16 tonne figure represents a 100% increase on the average monthly figure in 2004.
The newsprint that has been received at Bennadrove has been used to make bales of SiarShred, the animal bedding product available from the Recycling Centre. The bales of around 25 kg are an excellent alternative to other forms of animal bedding in common use.
