Kerbside Boxes
21 March 2005
The Waste Aware Team started to roll-out the Stronoway Kerbside Pilot Collection today. The pilot Scheme is being operated in two areas of the town.
Manor Park will be using either blue or red 55 or 44 litre boxes, depending on the number of people in the household. The boxes are designed to collect glass and cans whilst plastic bags are provided for collecting plastics and a reusable Hessian sack for paper.
In the Cearns area the Pilot is to trial a different system. The plastic bag and Hessian sack is accompanied by two containers for collecting glass and cans. All of these can be fitted into a wheelie bin that has been supplied to test the scheme.
The first fortnightly collection from each area will be on April 12th and April 13th. The Pilot is designed to run for 12 weeks. During this period the Waste Aware Team will be talking to householders to gauge the success of the two types of collecting systems.
