Kerbside Recycling Collection

Waste Aware Western Isles began a Pilot Kerbside Collection in 2005 within the Stornoway area.

After testing various methods and systems for the proposed recycling collection, success was gained and the pilot scheme became a permanent service to residents in Stornoway and its surrounding outskirts as far as Upper Coll and Swordale, Point.

To date, Waste Aware Western Isles have been able to offer the collection service to over 4,000 households, with 65% of these now taking part in the fortnightly collection.

Thanks to your recycling efforts in the Kerbside Collection Scheme, an amazing 284.47 tonnes of recyclable materials was diverted from our Landfill site in 2007.
