Social Work Department

Introduction

Many people in the Western Isles will have contact with Social Work at some point in their lives. This could be, for example

  • supporting people through difficult periods of personal and family crisis
  • older people or people with disabilities in need of support to remain in their own home, or requiring respite, residential or nursing care
  • services to the Courts and people who have contact with the Criminal Justice System
  • a child or young person in need of support and/or protection
  • services to the Children,s Panel for youngsters who have been reported to the Authority Reporter
  • people with mental health problems, or drug and alcohol dependency

Because of this, Social Work Services have to be wide-ranging. More of these services are now in partnership with other agencies. Here in the Western Isles this involves working with colleagues in Education, Health, Police, Housing and the Voluntary Sector to provide the best services possible for our clients. This site provides information about the services provide, or contact details for people seeking further advice or assistance.
