Domestic Abuse Services Information
Services For Young People
Children are often described as the 'forgotten victims' of Domestic Abuse. Children are affected not only by directly witnessing abuse, but also by living in an environment where their mother - usually the main caregiver - is being repeatedly victimised.
- Here are some examples of how children can be affected by domestic violence:
- Children can themselves be physically abused
- Witnessing the violence can be damaging
- Try to intervene to protect the adult victim, which puts them in a dangerous situation
- Copy the violent behaviour they witness, both as children and as adults
- Develop stress-related illnesses
Lose confidence, be afraid and angry, and blame themselves for what is happening
This is no longer a silent problem, kept hidden behind closed doors. You no longer have to endure the pain and suffering of living under these conditions. There are many organizations that can help you.
PEOPLE DO CARE!! Regardless of what you have been told you have rights and something can be done to stop the cycle and prevent the abuse from reoccurring.
