Sound Of Barra Integrated Transport Project

Progress on the Sound of Barra ferry project between August 12 and September 11 included:
Foreman and Engineers' site offices, canteen and compound set up at Aird Mhor
Offices set up at Ardveenish
Pilot road constructed throughout the works
Access road formed between rock source and breakwater
Soil and peat stripping to approach road, marshalling area and rock source substantially complete.
Drilling continues using two drilling rigs, one on the approach road and one in the rock source
Six more blasts took place for work on the access road
Excavating rock continues:rock being placed in pilot road and armour being sorted and stockpiled for use in breakwater.
Delineation fencing has been erected for three areas which have been identified as otter bathing pools and otter holts.
Delineation fencing has been erected to two archaeological sites adjacent to the works.
There are three tracked excavators and two articulated dump trucks on site.
