Pumping out
Blasting and drilling continued in the construction work for the access road to the new ferry terminal in the first fortnight of October despite high winds and rain.
Progress between 1st and 11th October saw:
- Two more blasts on the approach road route.
- Drilling continue towards the existing road tie in.
- Drilling continue in the rock source.
- Drilling and blasting in the approach road approximately 60 per cent complete.
- Rock from stockpile and approach road blasts being placed in breakwater.
- In addition, armour has been placed for the outer slope of breakwater and work on rock for the inner slope has begun.
Work in progress on slipway toe walls
The breakwater at low level is 65 per cent complete by volume.
Slipway concreting started October 5 and two out of three toe pours have been cast as well as two out of nine berthing walls.
There are three tracked excavators and two articulated dump trucks on site.
Personnel: 21 total, of which 10 are resident in the Western Isles.
Weather: strong winds and showers.
