Work is now progressing on the roadway across the causeway. By December 2, there were 505,000 tonnes of rock in place, over 70% of the expected final quantity.
At the Uist Quarry the drilling, blasting and excavating was over 70% complete and the crushing of excavated rock for use in road construction was more than 90 per cent complete.
Uist Roadworks: Water main installation in road verge begun - first 300m
Bridge: The driving of steel piles on the southern side was in progress; piles on the northern side were completed. The prefabrication of prestressed concrete beams in Ireland was completed - to be transported to the site early next year.
Eriskay Approach Road: no further work done with all plant relocated to causeway work.
Weather: Monday and Tuesday fine, then strong winds and rain for remainder of week.
Personnel: 57 in total now employed on the site (including 3 CnES) - 65% resident in the Western Isles.
