Sound Of Barra Integrated Transport Project
Eriskay - 16th June 2001
Work on the causeway is now turning into straightforward road completion and tarring.
In the week up to June 16, the programme of construction saw much of the work on the road itself completed - and an even greater focus on the landscaping needed to reinstate the areas around where the work has been continuing for the past 14 months.
One year ago, this was the situation report:-
"June 19, 2000: Work on the Eriskay side has seen the causeway core advance 150 metres into the sea - keeping an average 2.5m below full planned height - and 14,000 tonnes of rock has been placed in this section of core, all extracted from Eriskay as part of the approach road construction on that side.
"On South Uist, the development of the rock extraction site has started with the haul road 60 per cent complete and causeway construction from that side planned to start on July 3."
