Parapet walls
Work on the parapet walls and the bridge section have taken the causeway another major step towards completion this week..
Causeway
The rock armouring work is now more than 75 per cent complete.
General Causeway work
- Parapet wall 270m on west side and 140m on the east, 12 per cent complete
- Total rock placed : 618,000 tonnes : over 88 per cent of final quantity
- Core raised south of bridge - to 1m (average) below finished level
Uist Quarry
Drilling, blasting & excavating rock - over 80 per cent complete
Bridge section
Bridge
- South span deck concrete poured
- Centre span steel fixing has commenced
- Completion of bridge structure planned for second half of March
Weather: fine most of week, with wintry showers at end of week
Personnel: 52 total employed on site (including 2 CnES) - 63 per cent resident in the Western Isles.
