The week ending November 25 marked the end of the metre-by-metre check on the progress of the causeway - as it was joined on the Monday 665m from the Uist shore and 985m from Eriskay.
Now rock armouring is continuing as the causeway is brought towards its final height and width. In all 220,000 tonnes of rock has been extracted from Eriskay and 275,000 tonnes from the quarry on South Uist. About 70 per cent of the final quantity of rock has been placed.
Bridge - The temporary piling guide frame is being set up on the southern side A temporary working platform has been set up spanning the two groups of piles on the northern side for the long reach excavator to place rock armouring below.
Weather - mainly fine, occasional showers, cooler
Personnel - 61 total employed on site (including 3 CnES) - 56% resident in the Western Isles.
Gap Closure Party - This was held in the Eriskay Community Hall on Wednesday 22nd and was attended by more than 200 people from Eriskay, South Uist and from the site. A great time was had by all and there was a few sore heads on the Thursday.
