Into the sea

Work on the Eriskay side has seen the causeway core advance 150 metres into the sea ­ keeping an average 2.5m below full planned height.

14,000 tonnes of rock has been placed in this section of core, all extracted from Eriskay as part of the approach road construction on that side.

On South Uist, the development of the rock extraction site has started with the haul road 60 per cent complete and causeway construction from that side planned to start on July 3.
