With four months work now done, 250,000 tonnes of rocks has already been moved and work is going ahead on three separate sites.
On the Eriskay side - The core of the causeway extended to 510 metres from the shore (but still an average three metres below full height) Rock armouring to core continued in progress with an overall total of 105,000 tonnes of rock placed, extracted from Eriskay where the rock cut has reached 300 metres inland from shore.
On the Uist side - The causeway core has reached 460 metres from the shore at an average of two metres below full height . Work continues on the diversion around where the bridge will be built is in progress about 50 metres has been completed, to 490 metres from the shore Rock armouring to core is also in progress and 145,000 tonnes of rock has been placed, extracted from quarry
At Ceann a Gharaidh - the ferry terminal on Eriskay for the proposed Sound of Barra ferry the contractors were preparing for a second blast in marshalling area.
Currently the remaining gap between the causeway ends is 650m with November still the expected date for core link-up.
