Woodlands in the Western Isles

Creating Your own Woodland

Establishing woodland within the Western isles is very much dependent on site factors affecting the area you wish to afforest. A combination of soil type, drainage, exposure to sea spray, high winds and local topography all affect the local microclimate. Therefore it is important to match the intended planting area with the correct species and methods of ground preparation to ensure successful tree establishment. The Comhairle has produced a woodland leaflet that is available as a PDF document below:

Woodlands (English Version)

Woodlands (Gaelic Version)
